How to Judge the first contest

With our first contest drawing to a close, it’s time to start calculating the votes to determine who our winners are.  If you would like to participate in judging the contest houses, send your vote to Quetz using the “/mail send quetz (message)” command in-game.  Be sure to include your top 3 picks for best houses.  Please note that those that participate as judges will be ineligible to win prizes or to place in this contest.  A few notes:

  • All participants in the housing contest will be rewarded with 2 LP
  • The top 5  placing entries will be rewarded with 10/8/5/5/5 LP, respectively
  • All people who help in the judging process will be rewarded 2 LP. You do not get LP for both participating and judging.
  • The top 10 entries will be receive an in-game reward chest  full of phat loot.
  • Type /region info while standing in a plot to figure out who owns the house. Just in case the house isn’t labeled.

Thank you to all our participants for making our first contest a successful one.  The house-building contest will close at approximately 1:00 PM EST on 8/15, and judging will be open immediately after that.  The winners for the house-building contest will be announced at 6:00 PM EST on Sunday, 8/17.

After a long hiatus, we’re finally kicking off with a fishycraft classic: A house-building contest!  The rules are as follows:

  • Houses must be built in an assigned 31×31 area.  There is no height limit, but larger houses do not guarantee a more favorable score.
  • Houses will be judged on aesthetics, creativity and effort put into their creation. Interior decoration also counts towards your score.
  • More than one person can build a house, but rewards will be divided equally between all participants.
  • All materials for building your house must be gathered individually.  Creative will not be given for this contest.
  • Anyone can choose to judge the contest rather than participate.  Judges will earn 2 LP for their service, but are NOT eligible for other prizes from this contest.
  • In order to start building, a staff member must assign you a plot.
  • The building portion of the contest will take approximately 3 weeks.  From 1:00 PM EST on July 25, to 1:00 PM EST on August 16th.  At that point no further changes will be allowed to your entry.  Judging will take place from 1:00 pm EST 8/16 to 6:00 pm EST oon 8/17.  The winners will be announced later that evening.
  • Your contest build can count towards other ranks.  For example, if your house is good enough you may earn the rank of architect for it, even if you don’t place in the top 10.

The handing out of plots will begin immediately.  In order to get your plot, type “/warp contest” , and pick out a plot you like.  If a staff member is on, they will assign that plot to you (assuming it is available).

All participants in this contest will receive 2 LP, with the top 3 placers receiving more LP, in addition to several fabulous prizes.  The top 10 houses will earn a spot in our new spawn, which will be unveiled shortly after this contest concludes.

No Economy:

As of today Quetz and I have decided to not have an economy. Hear me out.  Having an eco. on the server can really change things, people paying to buy all their materials, worrying about money, quite frankly that’s really not what I want the server to be oriented around. Servers that do not have an economy tend to develop a form of bartering, and I already see that starting to develop here and I love it.  For example if so and so, let’s say frank, needs some wood they say, does anyone have any wood, a kind individual will then respond and say I have wood.  Frank will then respond with well I can give you a diamond for that wood,  or will ask what do you need, giving something back in return. I think this will work out really well for buildbylight.

New Horse Plugin:

Happy to announce that I installed last night a horse plugin that allows you to name a horse, and teleport to it, or teleport the horse to you. It’s a really great plugin, a page up above will be made with all the commands you need to know to use this command called MyHorse.

New Tree Plugin:

I also took the time to install  a tree assist plugin. This plugin has proven to be rather buggy, and the kinks are still being ironed out so please bear with me. But as of today you can use a stone axe, and a stone axe only to trigger a downfall of the entire tree with the exception of acacia trees and dark oak. Those two trees only parts have the downfall triggered unfortunately.
